Hi I worked in the limousine industry for a little over 16 months, over the past 3 months a good chunk of the staff was either laid off or fired for job performance or financial reasons. The guy who handed out cell phones to the drivers got severance, another dude who did not one entire days work in 3 years got severance, a guy who answered phones got severance, I who had an executive sales position am now being denied severance…I was laid off due to financial difficulties within the company and a need to eliminate my department..is my denial discrimination and can I pursue this in a court of law? I am getting the excuse about length of employment but I equal the same amount of time as at least two other employees who were granted severance. I have also been fighting with them over my commission pay which they have been playing around with.
I am currently not pursuing legal action..4 out of the 5 employees that received severance were by the hour employees and I was a salaried employee. They are now stating that they have a severance policy which has never been disclosed to employees. I had a longer tenure than 3 of the 5 employees who received severance.

When the limousine driver realized he wasn’t going to be paid the $900 Brown owed him for the day’s rental, he turned her in to police, Deakins said.
Brown, 44, was arrested on three outstanding warrants for aggravated menacing, misuse of a 911 system and causing false alarms. She was jailed late Wednesday, but no charges had been filed against her related to the coat store chaos pending a mental health evaluation.

I live in central Florida. I lost my job and i have been applying for jobs for months but no luck what so ever. I was in sales all my life. I am ready to take any job to support my family.
One of my friend told me few years ago, that lots of his friends used to drive cabs in New York and make as much as $400 a day. But i am not sure about that now.
Since i live in Florida i have to go to New York in order to apply for a Taxi and Limousine licence. Before that i would like to know the facts.
I am not sure how demanding that profession is in this present economy.
